So, time for some real truth here: I hate having people clean my house, I hate having them in my kitchen and I can barely stomach the thought of any of it – not because I don't think other people do a good job, but because I am very prideful and I like to think I can do it all myself. Well, the the thing that I am learning more and more is that I can't do it all, at least, not all of the time. The time my in-laws came for dinner and I was too sick to cook, my husband was actually shocked when I let my mother in law make dinner for everyone without fighting it. I know it's stupid, but it's just something I really struggle with.

Yesterday I was taking a shower and realized I needed to really clean my shower and with horror I realized that there was no way in heck that I would be able to do it without darn near killing myself trying to scrub and reach around my rather generous baby bump. I resigned myself to the fact that I would really need someone else to help me get some things done, so I walked through my house and made a list of the things that I really shouldn't do and need to be done.

Much to my horror, I also have some family coming in town soon who keep offering to 'do whatever needs to be done' and I had no idea what they were going to do until I came up with this list. So, if you have family members who keep on insisting that they want to help you, here are some of the things that I needed to

  1. Let them take a trip to Goodwill for you
  2. Clean out your car
  3. Install your baby car seat in your car
  4. Clean the baseboards
  5. Wipe down the walls
  6. Wash windows
  7. Give them a grocery list and your bank card
  8. Help you take down and wash your curtains, then put them up again
  9. Clean your bathroom – especially scrubbing the shower or hard to reach spots on the floor like behind the toilet!
Because what lady in their third trimester can actually comfortably scrub a shower? Not this one!
  10. Put away baby clothes
This is especially fun for grandmothers and enthusiastic aunts… yes, it's easy to do but everyone loves a chance to ooh and aah over adorable baby clothes.
  11. Clean out the fridge
  12. Help you setup 'stations' for the house
Depending on who you have helping, you might want to make them a list for each basket. This post has some great ideas of what to include in each basket
  13. Inventory your freezer
  14. Run errands for you
It always seems like I have a couple of odd errands that I need to run, so having those off my plate was a huge help. Sometimes things like taking a box to the UPS store or running to the post office are just easier to have someone else do.

There are lots of things that family members can help you with. I know that not everyone is like me and some people enjoy having other people help instead of it making them a ball of hormonal anxiety, and I really hope if you have helpful family members that you can enjoy it and take advantage of it, because it's really a blessing.

What are some of the things that you had family members help with?
